Principal’s Message

Ridgefield Park Junior-Senior High School is a great place to grow both academically and socially.  Students, faculty and staff, parents and administrators work together to ensure a positive school climate where teachers can thrive and students can learn.  Many opportunities for extra-curricular involvement are afforded to all students throughout the school year.  We advocate for students to be involved in some type of activity so that they are a part of the Scarlet tradition.

At RPJSHS we offer a wide variety of core and elective courses that challenge our students and ensure a comprehensive education.  Included within those courses are 16 options for Dual Enrollment credits through partnerships with Fairleigh Dickinson University and Bergen Community College, as well as an Early College program that allows students to earn a 2 year Associates Degree at the same time they earn their high school diploma.

Students are offered an array of extracurricular activities ranging from clubs and academic teams to athletic programs. All club advisors are volunteers with a vested interest in the students and the school, and clubs are open to all students. Our academic teams include Model UN, DECA, Debate, Math league, Science League and Academic Decathlon. These teams are consistently among the elite in their respective competitions.  We have demonstrated our commitment to social-emotional wellness and mental health through our Teen Mental Health First Aid initiative, and the incorporation of Positive Behavior Interventions for our 7th and 8th grade students.   Lastly, our athletic teams are a source of pride with a rich history of success and traditions.  While our teams maintain a strong record of success, most importantly, our student-athletes coaches are always recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship.

We encourage a strong connection between home, school and community. When we work collaboratively, we ensure all RPJSHS students have a rewarding school experience.

It's a great day to be a Scarlet!

Melissa M. Cavins, Ed.S.
Principal, Ridgefield Park Junior-Senior High School

RPJSHS mission

Our mission is to offer students educational opportunities that will foster lifelong learning and enable them to function politically, economically, and socially in a democratic society. Students will be assisted in becoming self-respecting individuals who reach their greatest potential. They will learn to act fairly in relationships with others, solve problems using effective methods, and think critically and independently.

Constant improvement of the educational program will focus on all students achieving the New Jersey Student Learning Standards at their respective grade levels. By providing essential resources and working with home and community, we will help students acquire the skills and knowledge they need to enter the work force or pursue higher education, and to become responsible global citizens.
